Quo vadis Pridnestrovie?
Michal Ondrejk | 20.02.2010 | PDF
Clanok In the following lines Iʼm going to deal with a republic which you wonʼt find in any political map of the world, definitely not on such a map which was printed in Chisinau. Iʼm talking about Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic (hereinafter "PMR” or "Pridnestrovie”), which is called by Moldovan nationalists, who don't know their own history, "Transnistria”, or rather, they name it indefinitely "eastern provinces”. It was founded by the Russians, Ukrainians, Moldovans and other 34 nationalities which had been living here for a long time. Councillors of all levels coming from "eastern provinces” couldn't bear the oppression on the part of Moldovan nationalists any longer. These assumed power in the process of USSR dissolution... Cyprus, Turkey and the EU. Inextricably bound in a vicious circle
Lenka Pekov | 29.12.2009 | PDF
Clanok The upcoming developments in the peace-talks between the two Cypriot communities' representatives, i.e. Dimitris Christofias and Mehmet Ali Talat, will have a significant impact on the future of the divided Mediterranean island as well as on the accession process of Turkey to the EU. All parties involved in the "Cyprus Turkey EU” triangle eagerly waited for the conclusions of the EU's General Affairs Council and Foreign Affairs Council held in December 2009. Since Brussels decided to freeze the accession talk with Ankara in 2006 in eighth out of thirty-one chapters due to the non-compliance of Turkey with the provisions of the Ankara Protocol, according to which it has to open its ports and airport to the Republic of Cyprus'... Karol Klobuick | 24.11.2009 | PDF
Clanok In November 2009, we met Venezuelan Ambassador in Hungary Adriana Gottberg in Budapest, with whom we discussed economic and political situation in Venezuela, standard of living of its population and foreign political issues in Latin America.   Ten years ago, in Venezuela the process of economic and political changes was initiated which is also called Bolivar Revolution. How do you asses this process after 10 years?  Now, it has been ten years during which we have been fighting for a change in Venezuela. Now, it has been ten years since President Chvez seized power. It started yet in 1989 in terms of Caracazo. It has been a slow, long and complicated process because it took place under conditions of peace. No aggression has been used, no human rights have been violated and no social class has been attacked... [more +]

Turkeys EU membership and the Public Opinion
Lenka Pekov | 30.12.2008 | PDF
Clanok A high-level political debate about the prospects of possible Turkish membership in the EU has been intensifying since Turkey became a candidate country in 1999. However, the state leaders might not be the ones to have the final say. Some member states have already announced they would hold a referendum and let people decide whether to let Turkey in or not. According to the latest news the authorities in Ankara will go for a popular approval of Turkish membership once the accession talks are successfully completed as well. The public opinion in both the EU as well as Turkey may thus create yet another complication in the rather rocky EU Turkey relations. In summer 2008, a referendum draft bill concerning the accession of new countries to the EU was successfully passed in the first reading... [more +]
